Colin Cowherd: 'Thank God Florida State Is Not In The Playoff'
Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Colin Cowherd is known for his strong opinions. After seeing USC blow out Louisville in the Holiday Bowl, Cowherd went on his show this morning thankful that Florida State did not make the College Football Playoff.

Colin Cowherd On Florida State

The Seminoles barely squeaked by Louisville in the ACC Championship Game. The Cardinals then proceeded to give up a six-touchdown performance to quarterback Miller Moss who was starting for Caleb Williams. Cowherd thinks this proves that Florida State would have been blown out in the semifinals. “Thank God Florida State’s not in the playoff. That looked like a scrimmage for USC offensively,” Cowherd said during Thursday’s show. It wasn’t a great performance but bowl games are hard to judge.

Bowl Games Aren’t A Great Measuring Stick

Bowl games in the current college football landscape are strange. Many players sit out and there is a question as to how much effort is given in a game that doesn’t really matter. For the Seminoles, they had to start a true freshman quarterback in the conference championship which likely would not have happened in the College Football Playoff. Still, it does show how flawed the Louisville team was.

The Seminoles will be a hot topic of conversation for a long time because of the 2023 season. As the semifinals get closer, we will see if the committee made the correct choice or not.
