Browns add a national champion in the trenches with their third-round pick in the NFL Draft
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns are back on the board again on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

Cleveland selected Michigan G Zak Zinter with a their third-round selection that was No. 85 overall. Zinter was the third straight Wolverine to be selected at that point from their national championship winning team.

After taking former Buckeye Mike Hall Jr. with their previous pick, the Browns jump to the other side of the rivalry to take Zinter. Zinter made 42 starts over four seasons with the Wolverines. In the 2023 matchup against Ohio State, Zinter suffered a broken bone in his leg. Perhaps we’re talking about him going earlier if it weren’t for that.

Zinter was an All-American in 2023 and was All-Big Ten the last three seasons. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 309 pounds, Zinter did not go through pre-draft testing due to his injury recovery.

A player that played great competition in college and is a powerful blocker. Before his injury, Zinter had been nothing but reliable for the Wolverines, so there is not a ton of worry about any lingering injury issues.

Joel Bitonio isn’t getting any younger for the Browns and they could use depth behind both he and Wyatt Teller. Zinter can be a starter for the Browns one day, though that won’t be Day 1.

Cleveland is scheduled to have four selections tomorrow to bring the 2024 NFL Draft to a close.
